Centro Común de Investigación (JRC) de la Comisión Europea

Oficina C helds a meeting with Stephen Quest, President of the Spanish Parliament and Director General of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre.
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is a research centre of the European Commission that provides scientific evidence for the design, implementation and evaluation of European policies and promotes science for policy in the Member States of the Union.
Oficina C and the JRC maintain a close relationship for the exchange of good practices and knowledge, and the institutional visit strengthens this collaboration.
The President of Congress, Meritxell Batet, who chaired the meeting, stressed the importance of ensuring that political debate and the different visions of the parliamentary groups are informed by the available scientific evidence. The Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology, established in 2021, serves as an initiative to enhance the connection between scientific knowledge and parliamentary debate.
The Director of the JRC emphasized the need to establish diverse, stable, and transparent mechanisms for providing scientific advice in the European Union. These mechanisms should enable managers and politicians to access scientific evidence more easily, especially as they confront increasingly complex challenges and the erosion of public trust.
